Abstract

The latest studies carried out on music research in Spain point to a growing evolution over the last few decades. To continue this upward trend, several studies promote the improvement of initial teacher training in this field. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to describe the state of music research in Spain through the perception of music teachers at different educational stages. The sample consisted of 118 active teachers from different educational contexts (Primary, Secondary, University, Music Schools and conservatories). The nature of the research was quantitative with the application of a questionnaire for data collection and a methodological design that carried out a statistical-descriptive analysis of the teachers' profile. Among the results, it is worth noting that among the lines of research mentioned, the most important is pedagogical research, and that the teaching staff do believe that training in research is necessary, as it is currently insufficient. At the same time, it is observed that the more musical training, the greater the importance given to research training. It is also noted that the most widely used media for music dissemination are magazines and blogs and, to explore the methods of access to initial training for music education teachers in the field of music research, priority is given to online courses and digital resources. It is necessary to deepen and perfect the development of initial teacher training in this field to lay the foundations for music research in Spain in general.
