Resumen

Trabajo fin de grado en Enfermería (General); The beginning of complementary feeding is a key stage for the development and the physical and psychosocial growth of the infant since important eating habits are acquired that will determine his future health. Traditionally these first foods were provided in the form of puree, in contrast, in recent years alternative methods such as Baby-Led Weaning have become relevant, characterized by offering greater autonomy to the baby, being responsible for its feeding. The objective of this review is to determine the benefits and risks of following a complementary feeding style directed by the baby (Baby-Led Weaning method) compared to more traditional ones. For this purpose, a bibliographic search has been carried out in six different databases, of which 23 original articles have been analyzed. The findings show that the use of BLW is related to benefits such as prevention of childhood obesity and overweight, greater autonomy of the baby, development of cognitive and motor skills, improvement of family relationships and less maternal anxiety. Disadvantages include its relationship with some choking risk and nutrient deficiency such as iron. These are key aspects that nursing staff should take into account when offering recommendations in consultations. (Summary)
