Los materiales fonéticos del archivolingüístico de Ramón Menéndez Pidal

Abstract

Dentro del conjunto de materiales lingüísticos acopiados por Ramón Menéndez Pidal a lo largo de su vida investigadora destaca la existencia de una gramática completa del español. Este trabajo describe la organización y contenidos de los cinco cajones dedicados a la fonética, que tratan de fonética descriptiva, ortografía, fonética histórica, dialectal y coloquial. El análisis de los materiales permite comprender el método de trabajo de Menéndez Pidal, en cuyos ficheros se apilaban papeletas de distinta naturaleza (fichas de fuentes, resúmenes de trabajos, mapas, cartas, observaciones y borradores elaborados, previos a la redacción de sus estudios). Las fechas mencionadas en los materiales aseguran que fueron reunidos, fundamentalmente, desde principios del siglo XX hasta la Guerra Civil y que esas cédulas sirvieron como base de los trabajos lingüísticos que elaboró en ese periodo. La mención de alumnos y colegas contribuye a conocer el entramado de la red construida en torno a la filología en el Centro de Estudios Históricos. Los materiales también revelan el papel de Menéndez Pidal en los trabajos y reformas de la Real Academia Española a principios del pasado siglo.
