Abstract

This article offers a philological study of the borrowings from Castilian and Spanish in Moroccan Arabic during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It draws mainly on two sources: Father Patricio de la Torre's Vocabulista and Father Lerchundi's Vocabulario. A study is made of a total of 473 voices found in the Spanish spoken by Moors and Jews, the haquitía and the lingua franca.
