Abstract

El léxico del color constituye un excelente campo de estudio para el análisis del comportamiento del vocabulario, en el nivel puramente lingüístico del mismo, pero también en relación con la sociedad que lo emplea. Nos interesa mostrar aquí cómo el término marrón, que empieza a aparecer en la prensa española a mediados del siglo XIX, y que términará por desplazar a castaño en la designación de tal color, responde a este tipo de fenómeno en el que la sofisticación del lenguaje, el giro extranjerizante, favorece el uso de una determinada voz.
